Yubaba are the regions premier funk and soul act. This seven piece band never fail to get the audience moving and grooving with their unstoppable mix of classic funk, soul, reggae, disco and ska.
The band are keen to mix well known hits by artists such as Stevie Wonder (Superstition, Sir Duke) and Bob Marley (Could you be loved) alongside newer artists like Shy Fx (Gold Dust) Estelle ( American Boy) and a few surprises along the way.
Yubaba was formed six years ago in denbigh by Ben (drums) and Alex (guitar) after they realised no other local band had a funky edge. Recruiting Felix (saxophone) Rhys (percussion) James (keys) and Kristian (bass). The band set out playing pubs and clubs in the local area and earned a reputation for a great night of music and dancing.
Jess (vocals) joining the band was the final piece in the jigsaw which completed a strong line up. Winning the V2 battle of the bands competition in Ruthin was just the start as regular appearances at various festivals soon followed. Yubaba also headlined at Mold Soul and Blues Festival 2017.
Yubaba now play non stop crowd pleasing floor fillers which get the party moving such as Valerie, I feel for you, 1999, Young hearts, Mercy as well as classics including I heard it through the grapevine, Get ready and Son of a preacher man. Mixing this with the infectious rhythms of ska and reggae from acts as The Specials, Toots and The Maytals and Jimmy Cliff means there is something for everyone at a Yubaba gig.
Yubaba performs private parties, holiday parks and weddings which has taken them all over the UK and led to the band performing at Chester Races, supporting BBC radio 6 music Craig Charles in Chester and supporting motown legends Martha Reeves and The Vandellas during their UK tour.
